Episode 37 - How to Watch Movies: Beginner's Guide - Stage 3: Genre & Collecting
Are you looking for a new hobby? Do you want to expand your knowledge of or experience with movies? Looking to branch out from the MCU? You have come to the right place! This is the second episode of a series where I will be making a guide for How to Watch Movies. This will have complete beginners in mind, as I am assuming no prior movie-watching experience. I want to preach mindfulness and introspection as you watch along. After I finish the guide, I will watch along, following the same lessons and discussing what I picked up and how it contributes to my movie knowledge. With the first episode, I listed the following films as essential movies: Jaws, Pulp Fiction, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Parasite, Citizen Kane. In the second episode, I let you choose your own adventure and list a bunch of movies you can watch depending on your interests. Now, I provide 1 Classic Hollywood film, 1 directed by a female, 1 classic franchise film, 1 by a director you have seen/something you have always wanted to watch, and 1 rewatch of a film you have seen before!
Tune in next week for more director/genre specific films!

In this second episode, I let you choose your own adventure and list a bunch of movies you can watch depending on your interests. I suggested picking two of the following:
Jurassic Park, Inglorious Basterds, The Shining, A Clockwork Orange, Memories of Murder, The Seventh Seal, The Third Man.
Then, I again let you decide, picking three films you have heard of or directors whose names are familiar. A few are listed below:
Goodfellas, Vertigo, Rear Window, The Godfather, Taxi Driver, Seven Samurai, Rashomon, Memento, Fargo
Finally, I discuss the question: How do you want to watch movies? While it sounds simple, there are a lot of factors to consider. Streaming vs Torrenting vs Physical. Quality vs Convenience. Subtitles vs No Subtitles. Night vs Day. Focused or Laid Back. Just find out what you prefer!

Episode 35 - How to Watch Movies: Beginner's Guide - Stage 1: Essentials and What Do You Want to Watch?
Are you looking for a new hobby? Do you want to expand your knowledge of or experience with movies? Looking to branch out from the MCU? You have come to the right place! This is the first episode of a series where I will be making a guide for How to Watch Movies. This will have complete beginners in mind, as I am assuming no prior movie-watching experience. I want to preach mindfulness and introspection as you watch along. After I finish the guide, I will watch along, following the same lessons and discussing what I picked up and how it contributes to my movie knowledge. With this first episode, I give you the following five films and tell you how to watch them and why these serve as a great foundation:
1. Jaws - Just an all-time great that balances Art and Entertainment flawlessly. Just watch it and see if you like it or don't.
2. Pulp Fiction - How do you do with the added violence and the unconventional story structure?
3. 2001: A Space Odyssey - Do you like the added scale and the existential subject matter?
4. Parasite - Easy entry into Foreign Language films. Try to be conscious of themese and symbolism. Do you mind watching a movie with subtitles or in a different language?
5. Citizen Kane - Do you see why this is one of the greatest films of all time? How do you do with an older, black and white film? Watch a bonus feature or read an article about it to see why it was so special for its time.

Episode 30 - Last Action Hero (1993)
On Episode 30 of Friends with Cinefits, Alex returns for another solo episode where he discusses the John McTiernan film Last Action Hero from 1993 starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. While this film was flawed and ended up losing money (check out Not A Bomb's episode), it is redeemed by a rockin' soundtrack, fun premise, and absurd comedy that is sometimes so bad, its good!

On this short episode, Alex discusses one of his favorite films of all time and why it holds a special place among hundreds of other films.
