Episode 200 - Blade Runner & Blade Runner 2049

Welcome to your favorite movie podcast, Not a Bomb!! This is the podcast where we revisit some of the biggest box office failures in cinema history and explore whether they deserve a second chance.

We are incredibly grateful for all the support we've received over the last 200 episodes and we look forward to many more. For this special occasion, we decided to discuss the seminal science fiction film, Blade Runner. Despite its status as a thought-provoking and visually stunning work of art, the initial release of the film was a commercial flop.

We also talk about the 2017 sequel, Blade Runner 2049, which strikes a perfect balance between building on the legacy of the original and standing on its own as a great film. Unfortunately, the sequel also bombed and failed to make a profit for the studios.

To delve into these two iconic science-fiction works, we welcomed a special guest, Cam, offering a Gen Z perspective. This episode wouldn't have been the same without Cam, and we're excited to have him share his insights on this captivating futuristic saga.

Blade Runner is directed by Ridley Scott and stars Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, Edward James Olmos, M. Emmet Walsh, Daryl Hannah, William Sanderson, Brion James and Joe Turkel.

Blader Runner 2049 is directed by Denis Villeneuve and stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Caral Juri, Lennie James, Dave Bautista and Jared Leto

Episode 169 - Valerian and The City of Thousand Planets

Welcome back to Not A Bomb podcast! This is the show where we go back and reexamine some of the biggest bombs in cinematic history and see if they deserve a second chance. On this episode, we discuss one of the most visually stunning films released in the past 10 years - Valerian and The City of a Thousand Planets. Based on the French comic which may or may not have been an influence on a certain “galaxy far far way,” Valerian and The City of a Thousand Planets has a lot to enjoy and one glaring weakness - the chemistry between the two protagonists. We finally get to tackle the filmography of Luc Besson and evaluate the acting talent of Dane DeHaan (spoiler - it’s a pretty quick evaluation and it’s not good). Is Valerian and The City of a Thousand Planets just eye-candy or does it have more going on than just stunning visuals and interesting gleep glops? Download and find out!

Timestamp: Intro - (1:12), Background Info - (3:00), Listener Feedback - (90:30), and Outro - (106:36)

Valerian and The City of Thousand Planets is directed Luc Besson and stars Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, Clive Owen, Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, Herbie Hancock, Kris Wu, and Rutger Hauer.

NAB Presents: Breaking Brad - Experiment 7: Argento's Dracula (Dracula 3D)

Welcome back to Not A Bomb Presents: Breaking Brad. The premise is pretty simple. Troy, Sammy from GGTMC, and Jose from Watch/Skip+ pick some of the worst films imaginable to see if they can break Brad. On this episode, the gang tackles “Legendary” director Dario Argento’s adaption of Dracula in 2012’s Dracula 3D. Oh boy. There is so much to unpack in this one: Asia Argento’s “performance”, a CGI praying mantis, color changing trains, a sleepwalking Rutger Hauer performance, and garlic bullets. Was this the film that finally broke Brad? Or did it cause some collateral damage among the group? Listen and find out!

Be sure to subscribe to the Gentlemen’s Guide to Midnite Cinema to hear more of Sammy. Also, check out Jose’s podcast - Watch/Skip+ • A podcast on Anchor. Both are highly recommended.
