Episode 197 - The Insider
Welcome back to your favorite podcast about some of the biggest bombs in film history. On this week’s show, we welcome Michael Mann back to the podcast and discuss his 1999 biographical drama - The Insider. The film is a fictionalized telling of whistleblower Jeffery Wigand’s dealings with “Big Tobacco.” The Insider was praised by both the audience and the critics and was even nominated for seven Academy Awards. However, this did not translate to financial success and the film went home with zero Oscar statues. Do we agree with the critical response, or is The Insider a Bomb? Download to find out.
The Insider is directed by Michael Mann and stars Al Pacino, Russell Crowe, Christopher Plummer, Diane Venora, Philip Baker Hall, Lindsay Crouse, and Debi Mazar

NAB Presents: The Classics - Deliverance
Welcome to Not A Bomb Presents The Classics, a series where Jose and Sammy join Troy and Brad to discuss some of the greatest films ever. In the second edition, the gang travels down the river and uses their pretty mouths to talk about 1972’s Deliverance. Consider one of the great American films of all time; Deliverance brought the world dueling banjos and squealing like a pig and hunk Burt Reynolds. However, it also brought one of the more thought-provoking, transgressive thrillers of all time. How well does this 1972 classic hold up? Listen and find out!
We hope you join us on this upcoming journey as Not A Bomb takes on The Classics!
Be sure to subscribe to the Gentlemen’s Guide to Midnite Cinema to hear more of Sammy. Also, check out Jose’s podcast - Watch/Skip+ • A podcast on Anchor. Both are highly recommended.

Episode 196 - Runaway Train (with Austin Trunick)
Welcome back to another exciting episode of Not A Bomb Podcast. This is the podcast where we re-examine some of the biggest bombs in cinematic history.
Oh man, do we have a treat for you! This week’s show is all about Cannon films, and you can’t talk about Cannon without Austin Trunick. Austin is the author of two excellent retrospective books - The Cannon Film Guide: Vol 1 and 2. If you have ever wanted to know something about Cannon Films, Austin is the guy to talk to. While Cannon created a ton of cult favorites, they also dipped their toes into some prestige storytelling. We decided to go a bit more “highbrow” with this week’s choice and are discussing 1985’s Runaway Train. This Academy Award nominated film started as a screenplay by legendary filmmaker Akira Kurosawa and was passed around by several Hollywood executives. The story of two escaped convicts who become stuck on a…you guessed it…runaway train finally found a home with Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus.
Austin brings so much insight to this film and we are super excited he joined us for this week’s conversation. So, sit back, relax, and learn all about one of the best stories to come out of The Cannon Group, Runaway Train.
